ABOUT

My name is Christina Cossairt, but I prefer Chris. I doula in Klamath County, Oregon. My dream of becoming a doula started back when I was in my teenage years.
I currently co-own a gourmet food business and run a doula service. I live in a beautiful town in Klamath County. I love Oregon!
I am very open minded.
I have 3 children, all born naturally with a midwife. All of my children are grown up now. I have always wanted to help birthing person's to have a wonderful pregnancy and labor and delivery like I did. I felt so cared for and never felt alone while I was in labor. Now a days, nurses do not have time to take care of the parents except to do exams, therefore the parents are left with inconsistent help with the labor. I enjoy educating the expecting person and their partner if they have one, and giving them the most information as possible to make an informed decision on recommendations from the doctor, midwife or obgyn. I want to be the support person for both parents. I love the process of pregnancy, labor, childbirth. I have always found the process to be amazing.

Once I learned about becoming a doula, I figured out that is what I wanted to do with my life. I waited until my kids grew up to give my full attention to training as a doula.
I have experience being a pregnancy doula, labor doula and postpartum doula.
I will support whatever decisions you make, I am not biased and if you feel like you need pain medication, to get induced, to have a c-section, etc. I am there to support you and to help you to have a great memory of your birth however you have your baby. It is a myth that all doulas only support non medicated births. It is also a myth that a doula can do what a midwife can do.
I will give you as much information as I can, and if you have questions I cannot answer right away, I will do everything I can to help you get the answers.
I will help you make a birth plan and what questions to ask your physician if you need information.
I support home births, hospital births and birth centers. I support all different types of labor and deliveries. I support medicated and non medications labors, as well and c- sections. I also support the birth partner, whether it is your life partner, your mom, your sister, your friend, or whomever else is there. I work with your partner, I never take over. A doula is not there just for the birthing person.
It is a myth that a doula is only going to support a birthing person that is having her baby naturally. Every person should have access to a doula. It is so important to have support no matter what the woman's choice is. I don't expect anyone to have a natural delivery. I did it because I could, and I had support. My midwife was a great help and so was the doula.
I have placed a child up for adoption so I can be a good support for you if you are placing your child up for adoption or if you have placed a child up for adoption previously.
I would love to teach you everything I know about how to go through labor without fear. Childbirth is a beautiful thing, it should be incredible and memorable. Fear has been instilled in us for generations because of people who have had pain in their childbirth for many reasons and then told the birthing person about how awful it is, and don't understand why people don't use medications in labor, some need the medication though. There is a difference between pain and suffering, we never want the birthing person to suffer. Labor is difficult for some, and not so much for others, so never go in expecting the worse. If you expect the worse, it will cause you fear, which makes your labor worse. Always go in expecting that it is not easy, but you spend more time not having contractions in most cases. Learning to relax is really important before labor. There are many guided meditation videos on YouTube. I suggest either buying cd's or dvd's or even reading books to learn how to relax so you can handle your labor better. Some people don't believe in meditation. Meditation is not something everyone feels they can do, but with YouTube, it helps quite a bit. It is about practice. Learning to relax is one of the most important thing you need to learn. You will appreciate the time you put into this while pregnant or while you are in labor. You can do the meditation at bedtime, nap time or any other time you want to relax. It helps with insomnia as well. Meditation is done in different ways. If you can find anything about relaxation that you like, learn it as soon as possible. Tension leads to more pain. Relaxation helps a lot.
I provide pregnancy and labor support, I have many things I will do while you are pregnant and in labor.
I educate you and have many things that can be done while you are in labor to help you cope better, such as massage, using a rebozo, helping you relax and to work with the contractions, keep changing positions, help your contractions to be more effective and hoping to make your labor take less time, teaching you to be empowered and to advocate for yourself, remind you of your choices with your birth plan, but support you in any decisions you make. Not everyone sticks to their birth plan. The birth plan is there to give you some control over your labor and delivery. Not everything always goes as planned either. There are a lot of variables in labor and delivery, and it is also important to learn what your options are with your provider, so make sure to go over your birth plan in advance. You also have the right to change providers at any time in your pregnancy if you feel you want/need too. I will support you in that decision. Also provided in the service is an extensive resource list.
